South Africa’s Evans Maripa and Kgothatso Montjane have claimed the men’s and women’s singles champion titles at the Queensland Wheelchair Tennis Open in Brisbane over the weekend.

Maripa came from behind to defeat Japan’s world No. 8 Takashi Sanada 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the men’s final. Montjane (world No. 9) beat Britain’s world No. 10 Lucy Shuker 7-6, 6-2.

Australia’s Dylan Alcott gave the home crowd at the Queensland Tennis Centre something to cheer about by winning the quad singles title 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 against Britain’s Jamie Burdekin.

Local players Kent McKelvie, Dion Reweti, Steve Fell, Lindsay King, Phillip Rowe and Aaron Lightfoot also competed in the event, which featured around 40 players from Australia, South Africa, Great Britain, USA, Germany, France, Spain, Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand.
