Robert Smeets was born in Holland but moved to Australia at the age of 13.

He achieved the highest singles ranking of his career, No.146, in 2008 after winning a Challenger in Dublin and qualifying for the US Open.

He was included in the Optus Australian Davis Cup squad selected to take on Chile, but didn’t make the final team.

While his singles results in 2009 did not match his exploits of the previous year, he shone on the doubles court, winning his ninth Futures title in France and finishing runner-up at the Burnie Challenger with fellow Australian Peter Luczak.

Robert’s favourite surface is carpet and in his spare time he enjoys soccer and computer games.
