From the CEO's desk...Tennis Australia Supports Grassroots Tennis
The board of Tennis Australia met during the recent Australian Open to consider a proposal to fund extra Community Tennis Officers (CTO’s) around the country. All Member Associations (states) provided TA with detailed submissions on how and where CTO’s could be deployed. Tennis NSW President Steve Healy was the Member Associations’ voice at the TA board table and with the support of his fellow TA directors, TA has announced a pool of funds would be allocated to employ extra CTO’s and give them the tools to help clubs, associations and coaches. An amount of $2.75 million has been allocated for the 2009-2010 year.

Tennis Australia Coach Graduates from NSW and ACT were invited to attend the prestigious President’s Reserve during the 2010 Medibank International. The night allowed the thirty coaches who graduated from a Junior Development, Club Professional or Master Club Professional Qualification to be recognised amongst their peers.

Tennis Australia Coaching Qualifications – 2010
Tennis Australia has the numerous qualifications organised for 2010. In addition to these qualifications Tennis Australia has created the Trainee Coaching Course. This course runs for four full days and is perfect for volunteers, tertiary students, part-time coaches and tennis enthusiasts. The cost of the course is $440 and can be organised at your local tennis club. If you would like to run this course at your club contact Joe Kubizniak. Tennis Australia will continue to organise professional development opportunities for all coaches in NSW and ACT during the year. Thirty two of the state’s most promising, young tennis stars competed in the 2010 Medibank Challenge during the Medibank International Sydney. The Medibank Challenge is a prestigious teams event which is contested by the most talented girls and boys from Metropolitan Sydney and Country NSW in the under 10 and 12 age groups. The City team prevailed again as they took out the 2010 Medibank Challenge Title. Congratulations to the following players that competed in this fantastic event.

Medibank Private introduces the Medibank Junior Tennis NSW “Volunteer of the Month” and “Coach of the Month” recognition program
Volunteers and coaches are a vital part of Junior Tennis in NSW. Without them it would be impossible for Junior Tennis NSW to operate. Medibank wants to recognise the achievements of these dedicated people with the Medibank Junior Tennis NSW Volunteer and Coach of the Month awards. The awards give you a chance to nominate a coach or volunteer each month in 2010 that has excelled far beyond what is expected. Anyone is able to nominate a coach or volunteer from a tennis club/association/operator in New South Wales who they believe deserves the title of Medibank Junior Tennis NSW Volunteer or Coach of the Month. Top honours for Nicholl and Bergmann

Top honours for Nicholl and Bergmann

Two prominent members of the tennis community have received Australia Day 2010 honours today - Des Nicholl and Malcolm Bergmann.

Nicholl was recognised for his services to the meat and dairy industries through leadership roles, to the corporate sector through business restructure and reconstruction programs, and to tennis with a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia, while Bergmann received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to tennis through administrative roles. In the past he has received an Australian Sports Medal (2000) and was made an Associate Member, International Tennis Club (Australia) also in 2000.
