Former top-five star Jelena Dokic lost to Greta Arn of Hungary 6-4 6-2 in the first round of the WTA Tour event in Morocco today.
Unranked Australian Dokic was playing in the tournament after she qualified to reach her second WTA Tour main draw of the year.
When she qualified at Hobart in January, it was her first main draw in two years.
She lost in qualifying at the Australian Open then didn't appear on the tour until this week.
A former junior world champion, Dokic won five titles and remains the only Australian woman to reach a Grand Slam semifinal (2000 Wimbledon) in the past 20 years.
She'd won both previous meetings with Arn, the last six years ago, in straight sets, but today she made 11 double faults and converted only one of four break chances.
In other first-round matches, sixth-seeded Alisa Kleybanova of Russia beat 2007 finalist Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-2 6-3 and Emilie Loit of France rallied to defeat Katie O'Brien of Britain 6-7(7) 6-4 6-1.
Rossana de los Rios of Paraguay topped Lilia Osterloh of the United States 6-4 6-4 and Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic edged Sandra Kloesel of Germany 6-4 7-5.
In other news, Australia’s Alicia Molik has been defeated in her first round match at the ECM Prague Open.
Molik went down to Czech wildcard Karolina Pliskova in straight sets 6-4 6-4.
