2011 SKYCITY NT Open Championships
The 85^th NT Open Championships attracted 71 entries across the 10 events, with 19 interstate competitors. Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia,  Victoria, Western Australia were represented in this group.

With no returning champions in either the men’s or women’s draw, 2011 would see two new NT Open Champions crowned and their names etched into the Parap Cup and Barden Trophy. 

Former Territorian, Tarlina Tipungwuti who now resides in Canberra was the surprise packet of the tournament. After claiming her first SKYCITY Darwin Open the previous week, Tipungwuti went into the SKYCITY NT Open with a stack of confidence and it showed. Not only was she unseeded for the tournament but she defeated the 2nd, 5th and 7th seeds on her way to the final. Tipungwuti faced tournament top seed and number 28 in Australia, Ashling Sumner. In a high-intense match lasting just under three hours, Tipungwuti prevailed in three tightly-fought sets 3-6 6-3 6-3. 

It was business as usual in the men’s draw, with tournament top seed John James of Queensland progressing to the finals only dropping three games on route. In the final he faced third seed and hitting partner Steven De Waard. However it was James who prevailed, demonstrating his all-court game to frustrate his younger opponent and take the title 6-3 6-4.

An MLC Tennis Hot Shots Challenge was conducted on finals day, which saw 15 aspiring tennis stars given the opportunity to play tennis in a modified environment whilst being able to witness some high class tennis action in the men’s and women’s finals.
