Round 5 was ‘Club Week’ in the People’s Choice Metro League with all three centres hosting home matches.

Gardens Tennis 1 (5-10-68) def Gardens Tennis 2 (1-2-44)
The top team continue their winning form with a five rubbers to one win over their fellow team-mates. Naomi Fellows and Ben Scott dominating the doubles court with an impressive 6-0 6-3 win over Andrew Hawke and Matt Grassmayr.

AWOF Sports 1 (5-11-78) def AWOF Sports 2 (1-2-47)
AWOF Sports 1 jump into second place on the People’s Choice Metro League ladder after a convincing five rubbers to one win over their fellow team-mates. Des McLellan and Peter Politis clinched the only rubber for AWOF Sports 2 with a hard fought come from behind and come from match points down win over Mark Pead and Oscar Ferdinands 4-6 7-5 7-6.

Tennis Palmerston 2 (4-9-75) def Tennis Palmerston 1 (2-5-61)
Only match to go against the team numbers with Tennis Palmerston 2 claiming a four rubbers to two win over their fellow team-mates. In an impressive singles display Matt Giess came from a set down to defeat Jonathan Grigg in a marathon match tie-break 3-6 7-6 17-15.

People’s Choice Metro League Player of the Year still remains with Naomi Fellows (GT1) with a seven point lead over Andrew Hawke (GT2) in second place and fellow team-mate Harry Lee-Schell (GT1) another two points behind that.

The People’s Choice Junior League also saw some close matches between clubs.

Gardens Tennis 2 (3-7-32) def Gardens Tennis 1 (3-6-31)
The top of the ladder clash didn’t disappoint with the match coming down to a count back on sets and games after being all square with three rubbers each. Nicholas Carmichael and Coen Hutt came from a set down to claim victory for Gardens Tennis 1 with a 1-4 4-0 4-1 win over Kyle O’Donoghue-Ellis and Ashley Setterfield.

AWOF Sports 2 (4-9-45) def AWOF Sports 1 (2-5-32)
Two fabulous come from behind wins in the singles got this match underway and could have led to a completely different final result. Stephanie Rayner (AS1) successfully overcame Eilis Kruger (AS2) in the number one singles 2-4 4-1 4-1, while Aditya Aiyappan (AS2) defeated Kyran Kerr (AS1) 2-4 4-2 4-1 in the number four singles.
