Tennis NSW Disciplinary and Tribunal Panel

The Tennis New South Wales Tribunal Panel is an independently appointed body which acts under the Tennis NSW Tribunal Guidelines in conjunction with the Tennis Australia Code of Behaviour.

 Primary Aim

– The Tribunal’s primary aim

– To ensure that the Rules of Tennis designed are adhered to and that the integrity of the sport is kept at a high.

– That when imposing a penalty upon a player is not to punish that player.  Rather, the main purpose of imposing the penalty is to discourage or deter that player, and all other players, from engaging in similar conduct in the future.

-That all players appearing before them are given a fair hearing in accordance to the principles of Natural Justice.

The tribunal panel adjudicates cases on a needs basis and all cases are held in the Sydney Metropolitan area. Different stakeholders to the case will be called before the tribunal when it is necessary and this includes Tournament Directors, Tournament Referees and/or Court Officials.

Panel Members

The four panel members come together with many years of experience in tennis officiating and coaching, general law arbitration and sports judiciary. The members were chosen for their different expertise to ensure that all grounds were covered.

Mr Paul Burgess (Chairman) – Paul runs his own successful law practice and has been involved in playing tennis and administrating his local tennis association for many years.

Mr Paul Shead – Paul helps run a family owned law practice specialising in compensation law. Paul has been involved in sports juridical and administration for many years in soccer and basketball.

Mr Bill Gilmour – Bill brings many years of experience as a tennis tournament referee and as a Level 3 Tennis Coach. Bill, for many years was an International Tennis Federation Referee and refereed many Davis Cup, Fed Cup and Grand Slam tournaments.

Mr Paul Archer – Paul was the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Canterbury Bankstown Junior Rugby League Association for 11 years as. Paul has also been involved with harness racing and their juridical system. Paul was the assistant Chief Steward of Harness Racing NSW and the Chief Steward of Harness Racing South Australia.
