New South Wales’s Ellen Perez has completed a dream weekend in Bradenton to win Australia’s women’s US Open wildcard play-off.

The 20-year-old upset No.2 seed Ash Barty 6-4 6-3 to secure her place in the main draw at Flushing Meadows.

The win came a day after Perez brushed aside top seed Arina Rodionova to take her place in the final.

Perez on Friday beat Naiktha Bains, giving her three wins in three days at the IMG Academy, and a Grand Slam main draw debut.

The left-hander, from Wollongong, currently plays for Georgia University in the US college system.

She came into the play-off in good form; on a recent ITF tournament swing through Europe, she won an ITF title in Brussels as a qualifier, and also reached another final and semifinal, to build a win-loss record of 19-2.
