Australia’s girls and boys teams have finished in the top 10 of the World Junior Tennis Finals held in Prostejov, Czech Republic.
The competition, run by the International Tennis Federation for top 14-and-under players, was won by Slovakia (girls) and the United States (boys).
The unseeded Slovak team defeated second seeds Great Britain 2-1 in the girls’ final, winning the decisive live doubles rubber.
Australia, represented by Sara Tomic, Priscilla Hon and Kimberly Birrell, finished sixth after losing the playoff for fifth place against China.
The girls, who all hail from Queensland, fell 2-1 to the Chinese team on Friday.
The boys’ event was won by top seeds the United States, who beat No.2 seeds Korea 2-0. The doubles runner was not contested.
Well done to National Academy Sydney Coach, Jarrad Bunt for leading his team of three; Oliver Anderson, Brian Tran and Max Purcell, beat France in a decisive doubles rubber in the playoff for ninth place.
