The Far West Academy of Sport 2012 Tennis program got underway over the weekend with an induction camp in Warren on the 20th and 21st April.
The squad was selected from trials held on the 11th March, which were attended by over 20 players from across the region.
Senior Community Tennis Officer – North West/North East and FWAS Head Coach, Ken Wray, oversaw the camp and was ecstatic with the potential and talent chosen in the 2012 program.
“The 2012 group would be as good if not better than any squad we have had in the past,” said Mr Wray.
“The standard just keeps increasing each year which is terrific to see.
“The squad trained really well over the two days and they handled everything we threw at them.
“As a coaching group we are really looking forward to working the squad throughout 2012. The players have a lot of potential and I am sure that we will see some great results from the group this year.”
Mr Wray will be assisted with the coaching by Nathan Wilkins (Community Tennis Officer – Central West Region) along with program mangers Jocelyn King (Nyngan) and Cathy Lewis (Nyngan).
The squad’s next activity will be a training day in May or June followed by the Tottenham Tennis Tournament at the beginning of July.
