Australia made it two wins out of two after beating Sri Lanka on the second day of the girls’ World Junior Tennis Asia / Oceania Final Qualifying event.

Having opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan, Australia maintained their momentum with an equally emphatic defeat of Sri Lanka on day two in Thailand.

Anastasia Berezov (NSW) got Australia off to the perfect start with a 6-1 6-4 victory in the opening singles rubber, before Annerly Poulos (ACT) won 6-3 6-3 against Liyana Weerawansa to take the tie.

A comfortable doubles victory in straight sets for Poulos and Lara Walker (Qld) ensured Australia remained joint top of their group with this afternoon’s opponents, fellow undefeated side China. Both teams have already qualified for the quarterfinals, which get underway on Thursday.

Former Fed Cup player Bryanne Crabb was delighted with another impressive performance from her young charges.

“The girls are handling the conditions extremely well and are working well as a team,” she said. “And it’s good to have played all the girls now in both the singles and doubles, so we’re in great shape.”

The top four teams from the qualifier will progress to the World Finals, which will be held in Prostejov, Czech Republic, in August.
