Daria Gavrilova has been knocked out of the Miami Open, beaten 6-2 6-2 by Czech world No.36 Lucie Safarova in the second round.

Safarova, the 2015 French Open runner-up, broke 23rd-seed Gavrilova five times while only dropping her serve once.

Later in the day, rain stopped play with Ajla Tomljanovic three points away from a famous victory. Tomljanovic, who is making a comeback from injury, leads Indian Wells champion Elena Vesnina 3-6 6-4 5-3 (15-15). The pair are scheduled to complete their match on Court 7 (nb. 12pm local).

Elsewhere, Bernard Tomic was forced to withdraw from his first round match against Mikhail Kukushkin because of a back injury.
