Nick Kyrgios overcame a slow start to advance to the second round of the ATP Acapulco tournament on Tuesday night.

Kyrgios found Israel’s Dudi Sela a tough proposition before sealing a 3-6 6-3 6-3 win in just over 90 minutes.

Despite dishing up five double faults, Kyrgios fired eight aces and won 80 per cent of his first-serve points to move through.

In the last 16 he’ll face Donald Young, who accounted for fellow Australian Bernard Tomic.

Kyrgios and Young have never met, but both come into the match after reaching ATP semifinals the previous week – Kyrgios in Marseille and Young in Delray Beach.

Kyrgios joins compatriot Jordan Thompson in the second round.
