Queenslanders Bernard Tomic and John Millman have moved through to the second round of the Cincinnati Masters after wins on Tuesday.

Tomic cruised past Portugal’s Joao Sousa in 79 minutes, winning 6-4 6-3; he managed eight aces and a first-serve winning percentage of 80, and saved all four break points he faced.

Millman was forced to battle harder, but came through against fellow qualifier Malek Jaziri 6-4 5-7 6-3 in nearly two-and-a-half hours.

The win sets up a second-round meeting with No.8 seed Dominic Thiem.

Tomic goes on to face 11th seed David Goffin, who beat qualifier Nikoloz Baliashvili in straight sets.

The wins for Tomic and Millman meant the Aussies were a perfect three-from-three in the first round in Cincinnati; a day earlier, 14th seed Nick Kyrgios cemented his second-round place with a commanding victory over Lucas Pouille.

In the women’s draw, Daria Gavrilova was due to face Elina Svitolina later on Tuesday night (local time).
