Aussie trio John Millman, James Duckworth and Jordan Thompson all breezed into the second round of Washington DC’s Citi Open with victories on Monday.

Millman took on American Denis Kudla on Stadium court and after surviving a tough first set, ran out a 7-5 6-0 winner.

A break in the 11th game proved the decisive moment for the Queenslander, who would not lose another game in setting up a second-round stoush against 15th seed Marcos Baghdatis.

Earlier on Monday, Duckworth continued his impressive run in Washington with a win over local Tim Smyczek.

Duckworth won two matches in qualifying and took his winning streak to three with a 7-5 6-1 win over the world No.120.

In the second round, the New South Welshman will take on top seed John Isner.

In a later match, Thompson swatted aside Dominican Victor Estrella Burgos 6-3 6-2 in just over an hour.

His reward is a meeting with 11th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The three Aussie winners joined women’s top seed and compatriot Sam Stosur in the second round of the joint ATP-WTA event; Stosur blitzed Alla Kudryavtseva 6-3 6-0 in the first match of the day on Stadium.

Third seed Bernard Tomic and Sam Groth are also alive in the men’s draw, taking Australia’s contingent to six in the American capital.
