Boys’ No.1 seed Tristan Schoolkate has opened his 14/u Australian Championships campaign on the perfect note with a commanding victory on Saturday.

Schoolkate did not drop a game in seeing off Marko Lukic, setting up a second-round match with Connor Johnson.

It was a similarly impressive display by girls’ top seed Amber Marshall, who beat Meri Zafirova 6-1 6-1 to advance to the second round.

Also advancing in the girls’ draw were No.3 seed Olivia Gadecki, who beat Tania Tan 6-1 6-1, and eighth seed Annerly Poulos, who won 6-3 6-1 over Lara Kaplan.

Poulos won the 12/u Australian Championships last year.

Qualifying action in the 18/u Australian Championships also kicked off on Saturday.

The boys’ and girls’ main draws – featuring 16 competitors divided into round-robin pools of four – commences Monday, with the best-performed players advancing to an eight-player knockout quarterfinal stage.
