Lleyton Hewitt’s comeback to competition hit a snag on Tuesday when he ran into in-form Frenchman Nicolas Mahut at the Topshelp Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Hewitt, playing his first ATP match in two months since falling in the first round in Houston, lost 6-3 6-4 to Mahut.

In the time Hewitt has been absent from the tour, Mahut won a Challenger title in France as well as reaching the third round at Roland Garros.

His grasscourt credentials are impressive too; last year he reached the quarterfinals in ‘S-Hertogenbosch, as well as the quarters in Newport.

Hewitt will next play the ATP tournament at Queen’s Club in London.
