Seven Australian men will this week battle in the qualifying rounds aiming to secure a place in the main draw at Roland Garros, beginning on Sunday.

Perhaps the first round match gaining the most interest from a local perspective is the all-Aussie battle between 25th seed John Millman – Australia’s highest-ranked contender – and John-Patrick Smith.

Others to watch include the match pitting Ben Mitchell against Brazilian Guilherme Clezar, and the battle between Luke Saville and 23rd seed Farrukh Dustov of Uzbekistan.

Should Mitchell and Saville both win, they would face off in the second round.

Also taking to the clay courts at Roland Garros this week will be Alex Bolt, Jason Kubler and Jordan Thompson.

Bolt and Kubler face unseeded opponents in Bjorn Fratangelo and Tim Puetz respectively, while Thompson will take on No.18 seed Marco Cecchinato.

Players must win three rounds of qualifying to progress to the main draw; first round matches begin on Tuesday in Paris.

The women’s qualifying draw has yet to be released.
