Australian Bernard Tomic has progressed to the second round of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters with a three-set victory over Lukas Rosol.

On a day when only three main draw matches were scheduled at the claycourt event, world No.27 Tomic posted a 4-6 6-2 6-3 triumph over the Czech in 90 minutes.

It is Tomic’s first ATP main draw singles win on clay in almost two years, although he did win two matches on the surface in Australia’s Davis Cup victory over Poland in September 2013.

Next up for the Queenslander is the winner of the match between 13th seed Ernests Gulbis and Austria’s Andreas Haider-Maurer.

Top seed and world No.1 Novak Djokovic looms as a potential third-round opponent.
