Kyrgios picking off volleys, Sam slamming a lemon tree … the Aussies have been demonstrating their accuracy over the weekend at Indian Wells. Check out what they’ve been up to and more in the latest edition of our “quick hits”.

Nick Kyrgios has compiled an impressive show reel of hot shots in his fledgling pro career, and he added another at Indian Wells during his first round victory over Denis Kudla on Stadium 1. Although he lost his second-round encounter to Grigor Dimitrov, the young Aussie pushed the 11th seed all the way and proved a hit with the fans in the Californian desert.

Meanwhile, Sam Stosur was producing a hot shot of a different kind, taking part in a slightly unusual WTA promotional activity where she demonstrated her prowess in getting lemons out of a tree. This has to be seen to be believed …

In an exciting pairing, another Aussie youngster, Thanasi Kokkinakis, has teamed up with Andy Murray in the doubles event at Indian Wells. Following his first round victory in the singles event, Kokkinakis discussed his relationship with the two-time Grand Slam champion. “We talk a fair bit. he’s real supportive of me, sends me a few messages after I play and stuff like that, after Davis Cup, so he’s been a great guy for me … I knew a few of the big dogs decided to play doubles (here) so my coach just asked Amelie (Mauresmo, Murray’s coach) and he asked me if I’d be interested and I say ‘yeah for sure’.” The duo, a wildcard pairing, won their opening round match against fourth seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.
