Nick Kyrgios says his back injury is improving with treatment as he battles to be fit for the Australian Open.

The 19-year-old Australian star was forced to miss this week’s Hopman Cup in Perth with a back complaint.

But he has given fresh hope that he will be able to contest next week’s Apia International Sydney which leads into the Australian Open in Melbourne, starting on 19 January.

“Just a little update on the back, it’s improving,” wrote world No.50 Kyrgios on Twitter.

“I’m having up to three physio sessions a day to be ready for Sydney and the AO. #ItsOn.”
