Sam Stosur has continued her impressive form at the China Open in Beijing with a straight-sets win over Alize Cornet on Thursday.

Stosur romped to a 6-4 6-2 victory in just one hour and 14 minutes, dominating the 20th-ranked Frenchwoman with her serve.

The Australian won more than three-quarters of her first serve points in improving her career head-to-head record over Cornet to 5-2, including the past four matches.

Next up for Stosur is a quarterfinal showdown with Serena Williams after the world No.1 got past Czech Lucie Safarova in three sets in the third round.

Since Stosur upset Williams in the final of the 2011 US Open, the American has won their last four meetings in straight sets.

However, the most recent, in the second round in Cincinnati, was a glorious two-hour slugfest that saw the 18-time Grand Slam champion prevail 7-6(7) 7-6(7).
