Australia has finished seventh at the Junior Fed Cup Finals in Mexico at the weekend after defeating Thailand in a play-off.

In the week-long tournament held last week in San Luis Potosi, Australia fell 3-0 to Japan in the 5th-8th play-off stage before beating Thailand.

Earlier in the event, Australia narrowly missed out on a semifinal berth, falling 2-1 to second seeds Hungary to finish second in their round-robin group.

In their first two matches, they dominated Ecuador and Mexico, winning both ties 3-0.

The team comprised promising Australian junior talents Kimberly Birrell, Destanee Aiava and Seone Mendez.
