Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis has seen his Shenzhen Open run come to an end in the second round on Thursday.

The 18-year-old qualifier fell 6-4 6-3 to sixth seed Santiago Giraldo of Colombia in one hour and 22 minutes.

Earlier in the tournament, Kokkinakis had won two matches in qualifying and progressed to the second round of the main draw with a win over Belarusian wildcard Egor Gerasimov.

Yet despite sending down 11 aces against Giraldo, the Colombian was more effective on both his first and second serves to move through to the quarterfinals.

Giraldo will next meet the winner of the match between top seed David Ferrer or Viktor Troicki of Serbia.
