WOMEN’S SINGLES – FOURTH ROUND

[29] Casey Dellacqua (AUS) v [11] Flavia Pennetta (ITA) – Arthur Ashe Stadium, first match

In yet another fabulous result for the 29-year-old Aussie, Dellacqua has progressed to the fourth round in New York for the first time in her career, having reached the second week at a major twice now in 2014 after her run to the last 16 in Australia. Yet the going gets tough from this point on – after facing three unseeded opponents so far at Flushing Meadows, Dellacqua next faces last year’s US Open semifinalist in Pennetta. Not many players have thrived quite like the Italian on the quick New York hard courts – she’s reached an additional three quarterfinals – and her experience, athleticism and solid all-round game will prove great assets in the fourth-round encounter. Dellacqua, though, has weapons of her own, including great disguise on her shots, the ability to generate good pace, and most importantly, abundant confidence.
