Matt Ebden and Marinko Matosevic on Tuesday went down in their respective ATP claycourt tournaments in Europe.

Ebden, playing at the Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest, Romania, fell 6-4 6-3 to Dutchman Robin Haase.

The 62nd-ranked Ebden struggled on serve, producing five double faults and managing to win just 56 per cent of points on his first serve.

Meanwhile, across in Barcelona, Matosevic went down by a similar scoreline to his compatriot against Tommy Robredo in the second round of the ATP 500-level event.

The fifth-seeded Robredo triumphed 6-3 6-4, taking his career head-to-head record against the Victorian to 3-1; all of the matches have come in the past two seasons.

Robredo advanced to a likely third round meeting with No.12 seed Marin Cilic.
