Brisbane QLD, Australia, 27 March 2014 | Tennis Australia

Australia’s top player, world No.20 Sam Stosur, has confirmed she will play Fed Cup in Brisbane over the Easter weekend.

“I’m glad I made my decision to play and I’ll give it everything I’ve got in Brisbane to help us get to the final,” Stosur said.

“Pat Rafter Arena will be a terrific venue for Fed Cup and I’d like to encourage all the Queensland fans to come along and support the Aussie team. In Fed Cup the crowd support can really make a difference and this is a big moment for us, 21 years since our last semi, and a great opportunity to get to the final.”

Said Australian Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik: “I’m excited Sam will be playing in Brisbane in her home state for this Fed Cup semifinal, a special achievement in itself.

“It will be tough against Germany but we have the players and the form to have a great chance in getting over the line.”

Australia will play Germany in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal on 19-20 April at Pat Rafter Arena, Queensland Tennis Centre.

Australia and Germany have met 12 times in Fed Cup, with Australia holding an 8-4 advantage; the most recent meeting was in 2012 in Stuttgart, with Australia winning that World Group Play-off tie 3-2.

This is the first time Australia has reached the semifinal since 1993, and 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of Australia’s last win, when Evonne Goolagong led the Australian team to victory in 1974.

Tickets for adults are $25 per session, children just $5 and family tickets are $50.
