Casey Dellacqua’s excellent early-season form has continued, with the Australian cruising into the second round of the Sony Open in Miami.

Dellacqua brushed aside Swiss Stefanie Voegele 6-3 6-2 in just 58 minutes to record her best-ever showing at the combined ATP/WTA event at Crandon Park.

Dellacqua, a wildcard entry into the main draw, survived seven aces from her opponent to break serve four times, while saving all four break points she faced throughout the match.

The victory sets up a second round meeting with No.6 seed Simona Halep of Romania.

It will be the pair’s second meeting in as many weeks; Halep stopped Dellacqua’s five-match winning streak in the Californian desert last week when she won their Indian Wells quarterfinal in straight sets.

Dellacqua is also in the doubles draw this week in Miami, teaming with compatriot Ash Barty.

Following the release of the draw overnight, the Aussie duo have found themselves seeded No.7 and taking on another Aussie Anastasia Rodionova and her Russian partner Alla Kudryavtseva in the first round.
