Australia’s Marinko Matosevic has gone down in straight sets to fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.

After a tight first set, Matosevic fell away to a 7-5 6-1 defeat in one hour and 18 minutes.

The Victorian has his chances in the opening set, holding a point to take it into a tiebreak.

But once he lost that opportunity and the Bulgarian broke serve for a one-set lead, it was one-way traffic.

Dimitrov, who reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and now sits at world No.22, faces the winner of the first round match between wildcards Marcos Baghdatis and Mexico’s Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela.
