Melbourne VIC, Australia, 9 January 2014 | Rob Sheeley

Jordan Thompson will make his second appearance at the 2014 AAMI  Kooyong Classic today when he meets Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny in the third scheduled match of the day.

The 19-year-old Thompson came within a whisker of upsetting Frenchman Richard Gasquet in his opening appearance at the tournament. Thompson is ranked No.321 in the world and served for the match at 5-3 against Gasquet before eventually succumbing to the world No.9.

Although disappointed with the missed opportunity, Thompson will be buoyed by the fact that he now knows he is capable of competing with the higher ranked players.

Thompson will again have his work cut out for him today against the No.15 ranked Youzhny but he has proven already this week that he may well be capable of an upset.
