Alice Springs, Australia, 29 September 2013 | Mark Pead

Jordan Thompson is the 2013 Alice Springs Tennis International champion after taking out the men’s singles title on Sunday.

Thompson got the early service break to lead Japanese eighth seed Yuichi Ito 3-0 before Ito fought back to level the first set at 4-all.

But that’s as close as Ito got to the 19-year-old Aussie, with Thompson running away with the first set and moving out to a 5-0 lead in the second set before Ito finally got on the board.

The Sydneysider closed out the 6-4 6-1 victory just one game later.

“It was great to finally win a title in Australia, for sure it is the highlight of my career so far,” Thompson said.

The win is Thompson’s second Futures title in two month after winning in Austria on clay in July, and his first Futures title on home soil.
