Sam Stosur has chalked up her second straight win at the Internazionale BNL d’Italia in Rome, defeating Peng Shuai in straight sets to move into the third round.

Stosur came out on top of a topsy-turvy opening set before running away with the match, winning 7-6(5) 6-0 in just under 90 minutes and setting up a clash with No.8 seed Petra Kvitova.

“I got off to a really good start, then lost four games in a row, then got it back, then she got a break up and served for the set. So it was a good fight for me to come back and win that first set,” she wrote for wtatennis.com in her Rome blog.

“From there I played a little bit better and obviously 6-0 in the second set was a lot easier than 7-6. It was nice to get a straight sets win in the end.”

Stosur extended her winning record over Peng to 6-0, but faces a far tougher test against Kvitova, a player whom she’s yet to beat in four previous matches.

Kvitova’s form has been scratchy of late, and that was reflected in her second round win over Sabine Lisicki, with the Czech lefty battling to a 6-4 0-6 7-5 victory.

Stosur will take on Kvitova in the fourth match of the day at the Foro Italico’s Pietrangeli court on Thursday.
