Melbourne, Australia, 1 May 2013 | Tennis Australia

The Australian women’s and men’s wheelchair tennis teams have today been named for the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Antalya, Turkey on 20-26 May 2013.

Janel Manns (Port Macquarie, NSW), Luba Josevski (Thomastown, Vic) and Sarah Calati (Forest Hill, Vic) will make up the Australian women’s side, whilst the men’s outfit will be comprised of Ben Weekes (Strathfield, NSW), Adam Kellerman (St Ives, NSW) and Keegan Oh Chee (Eastwood, NSW).

The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup.

“This is the first time we have had a women’s team at the World Team Cup since finishing third in New Zealand in 2004,” said Greg Crump, Australian Wheelchair Tennis Coach.

“This is also the first time Janel, Luba and Sarah will compete as a team in the World Group at the World Team Cup.

“This is a talented side. In 2012 Janel competed in the London Paralympic Games and last week Luba and Sarah won their first international doubles title at the DF Wheelchair Tennis Open in Brazil.”

While in Turkey, the Australian women will be under the instruction of Crump and the men’s side will be coached by Andrew Ash.

“This year the men’s team is in World Group 2 and looking for a strong performance to get back into the World Group,” explained Crump.

“Ben Weekes and Adam Kellerman both competed at last year’s Paralympic Games, and Keegan Oh Chee is making a successful transition from the junior to senior ranks, enjoying recent success at the South American ITF tournaments.”

The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is an annual event hosted by a different nation each year. The tournament is comprised of various divisions, including men, women, quads and juniors.
