Sam Stosur has withdrawn from the Sony Open in Miami to rehabilitate a right calf muscle injury ahead of the claycourt season.

Stosur injured her calf in the late stages of her fourth round win over Mona Barthel at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, and was forced to pull out of the tournament ahead of her quarterfinal match against Angelique Kerber.

Stosur’s management said that the world No.10 would be having treatment on her calf in order to get ready for the WTA event in Charleston in two weeks time.

The Australian reached the fourth round in Miami in 2012 before falling to Serena Williams.

Charleston, an historic WTA Premier-level event played on green clay, marks the beginning of the women’s claycourt season.

Stosur won the Charleston tournament in 2010, and reached the semifinals last year.
