For the second straight match, Sam Stosur has authoritatively dismissed an opponent at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

On Wednesday Stosur dispatched Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh 6-4 6-0, moving through to the quarterfinals of the WTA Premier event for the third straight year.

The win came after her equally-impressive first round victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova in the first round, a match in which she also dropped just four games.

The Australian simply dominated the match, slamming seven aces to Hsieh’s zero, and winning more than 70 per cent of points on both her first and second serves.

The match lasted just 56 minutes.

Stosur’s draw has opened up somewhat, with her quarterfinal opponent – the unseeded Roberta Vinci of Italy – knocking out No.4 seed Angelique Kerber in the second round.

The wily Italian has enjoyed a stellar showing in Dubai this week, also defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova en route to the quarterfinals.

The tournament further opened up when world No.1 Serena Williams withdrew due to a back injury, joining second-ranked Victoria Azarenka on the sidelines, who pulled out of the event a day earlier.
