Australians Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson will attempt to emulate their doubles prowess on the singles court as US Open junior action returns to Flushing Meadows on Day 11.

On another soggy New york day on Wednesday, junior singles matches were cancelled while matches in the junior doubles event were contested at an indoor facility in Port Chester, north of New York.

Kyrgios and Thompson, the sixth seeds, combined to win both their second round and quarterfinal matches to take their place in the quarterfinals.

In their first match of the day, the Aussies beat Korean duo Hyeon Chung and Ku Keon Kang in straight sets before returning to the court and winning their quarterfinal match against Luke Bambridge and Liam Broady, also in straight sets.

In a phone interview from Port Chester, Thompson said it was tough to adjust from the outdoor conditions and buzz of the crowd at Queens to an indoor, spectator-less facility.

“Would have probably preferred to play at Flushing Meadows,” he said.

“Nick and I haven’t played for about two years, but we’re combining and communicating well.”

The weather forecast is expected to be more promising for the next few days in New York, meaning that there should be the opportunity to clear the backlog of singles matches in the junior events.

Kyrgios and Thompson will play their second round matches, and should they win, will return to the same courts later to play their third round matches.

While the junior action plays out on the back courts at Flushing Meadows, Arthur Ashe Stadium will feature the last remaining men’s quarterfinals to be contested.

David Ferrer will take on Janko Tipsarevic in the day session, with that match to be followed by a blockbuster night spectacle between Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro.
