Queenslander Jason Kubler has won his first Futures title with victory in the final of the Player’s Choice Open in Birmingham, USA.

The unseeded Kubler didn’t drop a set all tournament and finished with a 6-3 6-2 win over Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the title match.

After battling with a knee injury towards the end of last year, Kubler reached the semifinals of this year’s Wimbledon Junior Championships and has continued his comeback on the European clay season in recent months.

Kubler has reached one Futures final previously in May 2010 at a claycourt event in Ipswich, losing to compatriot Brydan Klein.
