Fourth-seeded Australian Jarmila Groth is through to the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open after a straight sets win yesterday.

Groth, who also reached the final eight at the Brisbane International at the start of the year, took nearly 90 minutes to overcome the Japanese teenager Misaki Doi 7-6 (8-6) 6-3.

She joins fellow Aussie Jelena Dokic in the quarter-finals, Dokic to take eighth-seeded Serbian Bojana Jovanovski.

Third-seeded Alisa Kleybanova wasn’t so fortunate, going down to 150th-ranked Michaella Krajicek.

Krajicek of the Netherlands overcame an early setback to upset her Russian opponent 3-6 6-4 6-3.

Second-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli also moved into the final eight with a decisive 6-2 6-1 win over Russia’s Ekaterina Ivanova, while fifth-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic beat Russian former No.1 Dinara Safina in three sets.
