Sam Stosur has moved up to a career high world No.4 in the latest WTA rankings released on Tuesday.

The Queenslander inched up one spot from No.5 after reaching the quarterfinals at the Dubai Championships, where she lost to Jelena Jankovic in three close sets.

Stosur now sits behind only three players – Vera Zvonareva, Kim Clijsters and Caroline Wozniacki – in the world rankings and holds a slender 35-point lead over world No.5 Francesca Schiavone.

Jelena Dokic was the last Australian woman to reach No.4 in the rankings back in 2002.

Stosur’s next event is the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells beginning on 7 March.
