The Australian Pro Tour has moved to Esperance, Western Australia, with four Australians progressing so far to the second round of the Cliffs Esperance Tennis International.
No.1 seed Alicia Molik (SA) won a competitive three-set match in the first round against Tammi Patterson from Victoria. Fellow Victorian Marija Mirkovic was also defeated in the first round by No.4 seed Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey.
“It was great to get a win under my belt for the first round today. I’m glad it went to three sets, it gives me an idea of where I’m at and shows I can handle it. Tammi played a great match, she really tested me. She’s such a hard hitter and just kept hitting harder and harder the longer the match went on.”
In the men’s draw, Alex Bolt (SA), Jared Easton (Qld) and Andrew Thomas (NSW) all won their first round matches.
