1979/80

On 3 April 1979 at the Gisborne Tennis Club, a meeting was held to discuss the feasibility of forming a mid-week ladies tennis competition.

At this meeting, decisions were carried as to the Association’s name, the competition format and the nomination of Tuesday as the day of play.

The first official Association meeting was called (24 April 1979) and required two delegates from each club to attend.

It was also at this meeting where the first committee members were appointed:

Treasurer:                E (Teddy) Davis

On 24 April 1979 at the Macedon Tennis Clubhouse, the first official meeting of the Association was held.

At this meeting, the competition format and constitution were further discussed and it was decided that the competition would commence on 29 May 1979.  It would include 10 home and away games and finish on 31 July 1979 with finals being played on 7, 14 and 21 August 1979.

The clubs entered in the first competition were:

Gisborne                 4 teams

Lancefield               3 teams

Woodend                2 teams

Kyneton                  2 teams

Macedon                 1 team

1980/81

The 1980 winter season saw Riddell’s Creek Tennis Club join the competition with 2 teams.  This season’s competition would include 19 teams, making up 3 sections.

Then in the 1980/81 summer season, Gisborne South, St Mary’s and Springfield Tennis Clubs requested to join the Association.  They joined the fast growing competition which now had 23 teams but still only 3 sections.
