With a history stretching back around 100 years since its inception (circa 1923), East Burwood Tennis Club offers its members and visitors true social and competitive tennis experience in a relaxing and open space with easy parking.
In 2024 we are merging with Mt Waverley Tennis Club (as Monash Council has reclaimed their land for the footy and cricket clubs). Therefore after 99 years Mt Waverley Tennis Club (est. 1925) members needed a new home and they will merge with us and the combined membership will be known as East Burwood Tennis Club.
In doing so, we will have a bigger membership, more competitions on offer and more players for your teams.
In 2024, we will be undertaking some upgrading of our facilities for the benefit of our members.
East Burwood Tennis Club is situated at the North West corner of the expansive 40-acre East Burwood Reserve Google Maps, the Club's northern border runs along the Burwood Highway section of Burwood East while the remaining boundaries are nestled within open park precincts, sporting grounds, and recreation facilities.
At East Burwood Tennis Club, we are a multicultural, community-diverse tennis club, catering to players of all ages, genders, and different socio-economic backgrounds and tennis abilities. Our membership includes players from 7 years old to 90+.
Our Head Coach, Duncan Sillato, offers lessons for all ages and abilities.
We run annual club events like Open Days, Club Championships, Christmas/End of Year Lunch, Social Play and UTR Sports Events. We also have many players in teams playing in the following competitions.
Waverley Association competitions
Blackburn & District Night Tennis Assoc.

History of The Club
The Club was originally opened in 1923 by a small group of tennis enthusiasts and volunteers. The original courts consisted of 2 asphalt courts which are now the current courts 8 & 9 and the clubhouse was a wooden shed with a tin roof.
In 1966 with funding availability from membership contribution, courts 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 were added on; and in its later years, East Burwood Tennis Club experienced a phenomenal membership growth, and two additional clay courts 1 and 2 were given a green light by the Whitehorse Council. The Clubhouse was also then upgraded during this period to accommodate the membership growth. The renovation was mainly carried out and completed mostly by volunteer club members
In late 1990s the then Whitehorse City Council helped convert the 5 courts along the Burwood Highway end into Classic European Clay synthetic carpet but leaving en tout cas courts 1, 2, 3 and 4 as they were. The Classic European Clay switch-over however turned out to be a bad choice for the club as the surface deteriorated so quickly and it posed safety hazards to players during the wet season.
With the help of the State Government's sports grant together with using the Club's financial reserves the three courts 5, 6, and 7 were replaced with a more durable mod grass green-and-brown surface in 2005/06, followed by the remaining two courts 8 and 9 three years later.
Two of our original en tout cas courts declined in 2023/2024 and became unplayable. When Mt Waverley Tennis Club merged with us in 2024, they gave us an injection of funds, which enabled us to spend the necessary money on rebuilding these two courts to a very good playable standard. We are now back to nine courts—five synthetic grass and two en tout cas—with the five synthetic grass courts also having lights.
East Burwood & Mt Waverley Tennis Club are merging in 2024. Come along and meet some of the 'other club' members.
