Green Ball to be used at the 2008 Country Championships

Green Ball to be used at the 2008 Country Championships
The roll-out of the ITF's Play and Stay philosophy across country New South Wales will continue at the Medibank Country Junior Championships  (July 5-6) with the use of the ‘green ball' in the Under 10 age groups. Linked to the ITF's Play and Stay philosophy, the green ball is 75% compression of a regular tennis ball. The ball allows for less bounce thus allowing players to serve, rally and score resulting in a more enjoyable experience in the short term and a more beneficial experience in the long-term. Each Medibank Junior Development Series across the state commenced use of this ball in February and this addition further highlights the importance of this key athlete development initiative. Further details on the ITF's Play and Stay concept can be found at www.tennisplayandstay.com

The use of modified balls and courts offers a unique stepping stone into tennis and skill development pathway, allowing every player to obtain maximum enjoyment!  The 2008 Medibank International saw on-court demonstrations of the program. Coordinated by Community Tennis Officer for the Metropolitan and Central West Regions Matthew Starr the demonstrations were a huge success. Starr commented. "I couldn't honestly have asked for a better group of kids. There was a good representation from all over NSW, all of varying abilities, and they did a fantastic job in showcasing the modified game of tennis and the Aviva Tennis Hot Shots program to the crowd of onlookers.
