Talent Development Camp

The 1st Talent Development Camp was held on Sunday August 23. The camp is part of the Talent Development Program which will include Talent Search Days, Talent Development Squads and Talent Development Days. The objectives of the program are:

  • Bring together the best 10/under athletes in Canberra to train in an intense training environment once per week and to complement their existing weekly training program.
  • To educate the athletes and parents on the training and competition pathways and opportunities in the ACT and Australia.
  • To work with, learn from and educate club coaches on the development of these young athletes and the use of modified balls and equipment.
  • To assist in transitioning these athletes in to the National Academy Canberra

The Talent Development Camp attracted around 20 young athletes. The kids were put through the Talent Search testing protocols, which tested their:

  • Ability to think tactically
  • Technical level
  • Speed and agility
  • Matchplay ability

The kids had a fun day and it was a great opportunity for National Academy Canberra Head Coach Todd Larkham to see the future of elite junior tennis, “There were some great athletes present on the day and we now need to help ensure that these kids develop at a fast rate and keep in touch with the best kids in Australia in their age group over the coming years” said Larkham.
