2016 Canberra Tourism Awards winner for Deluxe Accommodation, East Hotel and 2016 Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards winner for Most Outstanding Professional Tournament, 2015 Canberra International, Tennis ACT, have formed a partnership to deliver the East Hotel Canberra Challenger from 7-14 January.

The East Hotel Canberra Challenger is a 7-day men’s ATP tennis tournament, with $75,000 USD in prizemoney on offer and valuable world ranking points on the line.

Industry leader in ‘new design’ hotels in Canberra, East Hotel aims to work alongside Tennis ACT as title sponsor of the professional tennis tournament, as the organisation aims to further establish the capital as a premium host for the second tier of international competition, the Challenger Tour.

Tournament Director Ross Triffitt said he is really pleased to be working with East Hotel and is looking forward to promoting a local company internationally.

“With a total prize pool of $75K and the week before the Australian Open, the East Hotel Canberra Challenger is a really high level tournament that we are privileged to host for 7-days in January,” he said.

“The tournament provides some of the world’s top players perfect preparation going into the first Grand Slam of 2017 and we are delighted to partner with the award winning locally grown East Hotel to promote a local business to the Canberra community and the global sport scene during Australia’s Summer of Tennis.”

Situated in Canberra’s inner South, East Hotel is a purpose-built 4.5 star apartment hotel, focused on providing its guests with a memorable Canberra experience, far beyond their preconceived expectations.

General Manager of East Hotel, Todd Handy, said East Hotel is proud to continue its strong ties with local community sport and Tennis ACT.

Ten of the world’s top 100 professional male tennis players participated in the 2016 event, with top seed Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) taking the title over fifth seed Ivan Dodig (CRO).

The East Hotel Canberra Challenger will take place at the Canberra Tennis Centre from 7-14 January 2017. Qualifying will take place from 7 – 8 January with main draw action to commence on Monday 9 January 2017.

Entry is free, with a gold coin donation upon entry on Saturday 14 January – finals day.
