ACT tennis legends Wally Masur, Ken Willis (OAM), and Keith Carnall will be inducted into the inaugural Tennis ACT Walk of Fame on Saturday 10 September 2016.

The Tennis ACT Walk of Fame will honour those whose exceptional contribution has brought recognition and esteem to tennis in the Australian Capital Territory.

The Tennis ACT Walk of Fame is a long-term project with a life expectancy of over 50-years.

Commemoration will be at the entrance of the Canberra Tennis Centre, by way of a path of inscribed pavers. The pathway, designed to represent a tennis court, will feature inscribed pavers honouring annual Walk of Fame inductees, as well as inscribed pavers that can be donated by tennis families through the Australian Sports Foundation to fund future improvements to the facility.

Tennis ACT CEO, Ross Triffitt, said the three inaugural inductees are great representatives of multiple eras.

“The three inaugural inductees are individuals from three different eras that have made a significant contribution to Tennis in the ACT over the lifespan of the organisation. They are all great examples of the type of candidates we wish to honour as part of this permanent legacy.

“The Walk of Fame project is a valuable representation of the past, present and future of tennis. It will represent tennis people, their achievements and contributions to tennis, preserved for future generations.”

All inductees have a long history of involvement with the sport. Their unique contribution to tennis and community life in Canberra is unparalleled.

The Inaugural Walk of Fame recipients will be announced at the 2016 Tennis ACT Awards Celebration event on Saturday 10 September 2016 at the Canberra Tennis Centre and Next Gen Health and Lifestyle Club in Lyneham.

In addition, the annual awards event will see 13 categories awarded, recognising excellence in local tennis. For the first time, winners of a Tennis ACT award will be nominated for the Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards in their equivalent category. The national awards will held in Melbourne on Monday 28 November at a special ceremony organised by Tennis Australia.
