Canberra’s local star Annerly Poulos has been selected to represent Australia at the ITF World Junior Tennis Asia final qualifying tournament in Nonthaburi, Thailand from the 25-30 April.

The ITF World Junior Tennis event is an international team competition for players aged 14-and-under.

Poulos will be joined by Olivia Gadecki (Hollywell, Qld) and Natasha Russell (Coromandel East, SA) and led by National Academy ACT Head Coach Todd Larkham.

“The girls are really excited and looking forward to the opportunity. This will be Poulos’ first time representing Australia and playing a tournament overseas.” Larkham said.

“The girls will travel to Thailand with plenty of matches, both singles and doubles, under their belt.

“It is a great honour and achievement to be selected to represent your country. The girls will need to play their best tennis to finish top three and qualify for the world finals later this year.”

Poulos has been in great form and playing some high quality tennis with just last week becoming a finalist at the 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships held in Adelaide.

In the boy’s competition, Alex Bulte (Sandhurst, Vic), Philip Sekulic (Wakerley, Qld) and Enzo Aguiard (Parkville, Vic) are currently in competition which started earlier in the week. The team is guided by captain Bernhard Goerlitz, National Academy Victoria coach.

Our Australia teams must win through regional qualifying for the opportunity to be one of 16 nations to compete at the World Junior Team finals held in Prostejov, Czech Republic from 1–6 August.

The World Junior Tennis competition has helped launch the careers of current and former world No.1s including Novak Djokovic (SRB), Lleyton Hewitt (AUS), Rafael Nadal (ESP), Kim Clijsters (BEL) and Justine Henin (BEL), who all participated in this event as juniors.
