The Canberra Velocity Men have rebounded with an impressive win over the Western Sydney Warriors, while the women have suffered their first conference loss since 2013 in Wollongong today.

The Men started strong, with James Frawley rounding out a perfect weekend in singles play defeating Blade Fong in straight sets. Jake Eames then defeated Jake Delaney in 3 sets to put Velocity up 2-0. The Warriors hit back with Max Purcell defeating Alex Babanine. Dimitri Morogiannis was impressive in his first match this season defeating David Barclay to put Velocity up 3-1.

Eames and Frawley then clinched the win for Velocity with a straight sets win in the doubles. Daniel Guccione and Babanine went down to Delaney and Purcell in the other doubles to finish with a 4-2 Velocity victory.

In the women’s, Velocity got off to a quick start with Tyra Calderwood dropping just one game against Natalie Barbir. Michaela Haet then hit back for the Warriors, defeating Alison Bai at the top spot in 3 sets. Ashley Keir then put Velocity up 2-1, only to have the scores levelled at 2-2 when Lucie Kriegsmannova defeated Kaitlin Staines.

The deciding doubles were both tight matches. Bai and Keir lost the first set, only to rebound to take the second 4-0. However they couldn’t maintain their momentum losing the match deciding tiebreak. Staines and Calderwood lost two tiebreak sets to seal the victory for the Warriors, 4-2.

Canberra Velocity will return to action on Friday taking on the Sydney Saints in Sydney.
