ACT’s Dimitri Morogiannis has made it through to his first ITF junior final after a straight sets victory over Brock Meuris at the Canberra Junior International while Kaitlin Staines, who trains at the National Academy Canberra, has made it through to the girl’s final after a tough 3 set battle with Amber Marshall.

Morogiannis has been in great form this tournament and is yet to drop a set.  In today’s semi he faced Lucky Loser, Brock Meuris who had knocked out the number 2 and 6 seeds in the previous two rounds.  Morogiannis proved too strong for Meuris taking the match 6-3, 6-2.  In tomorrow’s final, Morogiannis will take on wildcard Jeremy Taylor who defeated number 5 seed Thomas Bosancic today in straight sets.  Morogiannis, is currently ranked 578 in the ITF junior world rankings while Taylor is 1604.

In the girl’s draw, Kaitlin Staines survived 8 match points to make it through to the final.  Staines who hails from Wagga Wagga, recently moved to Canberra to train at the National Academy.  In a match that lasted almost 3 hours, Staines edged out South Australia’s Amber Marshall 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.  In the decided she will face top seed Violet Apisah who also came through a three set match against Selina Turulja.  Apisah is currently ranked 207 in the junior world rankings, while Staines is ranked 327.

In the girl’s doubles, Staines combined with Canberra’s imogen Clews to defeat top seeds Amber Marshall and Brooke Milner 7-6, 6-1.  They will face the unseeded team of Violet Apisah and Maria Vais in tomorrow’s final who received a walkover due to injury today.

The boy’s doubles final will see top seeds Benard Nkomba and Mayez Elrich face Jeremy Taylor and Chase Ferguson.

Both singles finals will commence at 9.00am followed by the doubles finals.  All matches will be played at the Canberra Tennis Centre.
