The Canberra Junior International will take place at the Canberra Tennis Centre from October 5-11. The tournament is a Grade 5 International Tennis Federation (ITF) event with international ranking points on offer and has attracted some of Australia’s top juniors.

In the boy’s singles, NSW’s Jesse Delaney and Victoria’s Matthew Romios will be the top 2 seeds, ranked 305 and 388 in the ITF rankings respectively. Canberra’s Dimitri Morogiannis, currently ranked ITF 599 will looking to perform strongly on his home courts and is expected to be seeded. Fellow Canberran Heath Bortolin will join him in the main draw, while Alexander de Jong, Jack Fuller, and Luke Sarris will be looking to win their way through qualifying. Zac Donaldson, who has come off a big few weeks, winning titles at the Canberra Junior Open and the Capital Open, is currently on the alternate list and will be hoping to get a call up into qualifying.

The girl’s singles features a strong line up, with 4 players ranking inside the top 100 in the Australian women’s singles rankings. NSW’s, Violet Apisah (ITF 292) headlines the field, while Kaitlin Staines who trains at the National Academy, Canberra will be seeded highly. Canberra’s Imogen Clews and Millie Scutt have gained a main draw spot along with Canberra Velocity player, Maria Vais. Leah Williamson, Chorlida Kang, and Matina Ujdur will also feature in qualifying.

This is the first time an ITF junior event has been held in the ACT. Tournament Director, Lenka Greenhalgh said “We are looking forward to hosting our first ITF junior event at our brand new facility. We are pleased with the calibre of athletes that will be participating in both the girls and boys events. Players are travelling from across Australia and we also have a couple of international entrants”.

“It is fantastic that Canberra players have the opportunity to compete against some of Australia’s best players and the chance to earn international ranking points” Greenhalgh continued.

Qualifying will commence on Monday, with main draw set to commence on Wednesday. Finals will be played on Sunday 11 of October. Entry to the event is free.
